PE or civic superhero?
Story by Hayley Robb
Professional engineers are passionate about what they do, and natural problem solvers. They use their skills and talents to create innovative solutions for the betterment of society.
The sole practice of engineering is an act of service to the community.
The National Society of Professional Engineers’ Code of Ethics states, “Engineers shall at all times strive to serve the public interest,” which includes: “... participate in civic affairs; career guidance for youths; and work for the advancement of the safety, health, and well-being of their community.”
Whether it be holding public office or serving on the local school board, civic responsibility comes in all shapes and sizes. Kentucky Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE-KY) Executive Director, Russ Romine, said holding public office is a natural extension for PEs.
